Do you offer one-way rentals?

Yes, we can arrange one way hires to and from our locations nationwide. There are minimum hire periods in place and additional charges do apply.

 

How old do I need to be?

You should be over the age of 21 however if you are younger than the age of 21, your excess will be higher. To find out more information, navigate to our Insurance Cover page.

 

What sort of licence do I need?

We require that drivers of our vehicles hold a full current class 1 (car) licence, an overseas drivers licence or an international drivers license. If your licence is not in English you will need to arrange for this to be translated. If drivers hold any other licence than a full current class 1 (car) licence your excess will be higher. What credit cards do you accept?

Currently we accept Visa and Mastercard

 

What happens if I do not have a credit card?

We will only accept hirers that have a credit or debit card, sorry

 

Do you charge for additional drivers?

Not at all, you can add as many additional drivers as you like.

 

How can I make changes to my booking or extend my hire?

You can make changes to your booking at any time at no additional cost by calling us on our toll free number 0800736863. The extension of your booking is not guaranteed due to availability but we will do our best to accommodate your request. Outside NZ you can direct any changes including collection times, return times or flight changes via email to info@onroad.co.nz

 

Can I return my vehicle earlier?

Should you decide to return your vehicle earlier including the vehicles keys and accessories to the location specified on our rental agreement prior to the expiry of the hire term, you will not be entitled to a refund.

 

What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

Our cancellation policy is simple:

  • Cancellation prior to 7 days of your hire commencing – full refund less $150.00 cancellation fee
  • Cancellation with 7 days of your hire commencing – no refund

 

Do I have to pay a deposit when making a booking?

Full pre-payment is required when you arrange the booking of your rental vehicle however if your booking is 6 months in advance, a $150.00 deposit is required to secure your vehicle and the balance is payable 7 days prior to collection of your vehicle.

 

What do I need when I collect my vehicle?

When the OnRoad team meets you to collect your vehicle at your specified location or the Airport, we require a valid drivers licence and your credit card.

 

What if I am running late and can’t return the vehicle at the stated time on the Rental Agreement?

You will need to notify the OnRoad Rentals team before the expiry time on your Rental Agreement and we give you a grace period of up to two hours and any additional hours are charged at $25.00/hour. If you are more than five hours late, a full days rental will be charged.

 

Can I smoke in the vehicle?

We have a strict NO SMOKING policy for the comfort of all our customers. A cleaning fee of $250.00 minimim will apply should you smoke in the vehicle.

 

Can I drive off road or on the beach?

We have a strict SEALED ROAD policy so please do not drive our vehicle off road or on to any beach. A minimum penalty of $2500.00 may apply.

 

Can I take the vehicle across Cook Straight on the Ferry?

Yes, absolutely. Ferry bookings are made directly through two major ferry companies – Bluebridge and Interislander.

 

What happens if I breakdown?

We are VERY confident about the quality of our rental vehicles and our team of mechanics consistently do everything they can to ensure you have a trouble free rental experience. Please contact contact the Automobile Association (AA) on 0800 734 543 should you require assistance – you will need to quote the vehicle registration number. Please note that this policy is FREE for MECHANICAL breakdowns only and all other call outs will be subject to relevant AA charges.

 

What do I do if I have an accident?

In the unfortunate event that you have an accident with your rental vehicle, we ask that you do not admit liability in any circumstance. If you are unsure, always obtain a police report that will assist our insurance company to gauge who was at fault. All accidents must be reported to an OnRoad Rentals representative the day it happens and you must complete a claim form as soon as possible – please visit http://www.onroad.co.nz/ive-had-an-accident/ and fill out the online form. We do not guarantee to replace the vehicle, if you are liable for the accident or under any other circumstance due to availability.
